I haven’t made any plans, but I did mention the spectre of the Stalker’s mother having been seen at the Lake of Crystals. In a quiet moment this evening I thought I’d make a Heroforge model and tokens just in case. If nothing else it inspires some details that I can use for immersive storytelling on maps and encounters to come.
So, here’s the as-yet-unnamed figure that created The Stalker. The base model is an elven woman, tweaked to be carrying a little weight around the middle, and a little bent and worn. Their skin is pure white, with grey hermit hair that is largely covered by the hood and cloak. I went for a mixture of anger and disgust on the fine elven features. Unusually there are no decals applied for shading or visual flair – I wanted to have a plain and unadorned appearance – no focus on creating a beguiling appearance, just a raw impact.
The outfit is based on a norse-style hangerok dress and I’ve used a combination of dark blues and black cashmere materials to contrast with the paleness of their skin and their jet black eyes. Some intense low blue lights to suggest a night time environment, and a disturbingly organic knife and grenade, round it all out. I’m looking to suggest a simple lifestyle interrupted by arcane horrors, and a transformation of something once wholesome into something sinister.
The back story is likely to be adjacent to the origins of the Friday 13th story but with a fantasy twist or three. The advantage of being extremely obvious about the inspiration and then turning it on its head a bit is that my players can put their own thoughts on the figure and flesh it out. As the GM, I can then cherry pick anything I might have not thought of to throw into the mix. Setting everything in the plane of stories does have its advantages as a DM resource…
So, we’ll see what happens if they make some interesting decisions in the next session, because it wouldn’t be the DDC without someone trying something odd. Maybe Hope will try to adopt The Stalker. That would certainly get The Mother’s attention…
