New Heroforge Template – Batfolk

One of the things I appreciate about Heroforge is that they keep adding assets and options. This week they added a new species to the many fantasy options they already provide – the batfolk. They’re pretty much what you’d expect from a name like that. They’re humanoid individuals with batlike features to their anatomy.

I could have done with these a couple of years ago when the DDC were closing in on returning to Thorin’s homeland. There were various strange creatures on the loose, and werebats were one of the antagonists that I included.

I threw them into the mix for a scenario where the group was defending a watch tower that they had camped in. Two of the characters had previously been bitten by werewolves, and as the moons rose they struggled to keep control as the curse affected them. Not only were the characters having to defend themselves from marauders outside therefore, but they were also having to deal with their afflicted companions. This encounter was told across two sessions – Pack Tactics and Assault on Guardhouse 13 – and was great fun.

I described the werebats merely as winged goblinoid creatures – accurate enough for the purposes of the encounter – and they weren’t a major feature in the story, but it was fun to sit and tinker with models in Heroforge to imagine what they might have looked like on the table at the time.

I haven’t really put anything together for a Halloween One-Shot yet. If people’s health cooperates, I might return to these batfolk ot have a bit of chilling fun…
